Memphis, TN - Literacy Mid-South is significantly expanding its partnership with Memphis-Shelby County Schools, increasing access to books, tutors, and additional resources for thousands of students. Twenty-three schools will now receive varying levels of support to cater to individual school needs.
“We often say that ‘literacy is the foundation upon which all learning is built,’ and we’re excited to add several schools to the already-existing roster,” said Chasity Rogers, Executive Director of the MSCS Office of Partnerships and Development, “Partnerships are the cornerstone of a thriving community, and when we invest in literacy through these collaborations, we unlock the boundless potential of our children." Six additional schools were added to the list of 17.
The previously served schools will receive comprehensive Family Engagement Literacy materials and, upon request, a book vending machine stocked with grade-level appropriate books. This aims to encourage reading at home and create a more literacy-rich environment.
“We are committed to ensuring that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed, and the expansion of our Tutor 901 program is a tremendous step in that direction,” said Sam O’Bryant, CEO of Literacy Mid-South in a statement to a local media outlet.
The newly added schools will benefit from an even broader range of resources, with access to Tutor901, including Family Engagement Literacy materials, and the book vending machines. These resources are designed to address specific literacy challenges and provide students with the support they need to succeed.
