District 9 - Ridgeway High School Announces their October Student MVPs

Ridgeway High School has named their four students of the month for October. They are Mohamed Bah, Dominic Williams, Rishard Gary, and Gabriella Young.

According to Dr. Phillip Nelson, the principal of the school, the “MVP of the Month” is a new initiative that was implemented this year at Ridgeway High School to highlight students for their excellent work in the past month. Only four students – one per grade – can win the monthly award, and they are voted on by the teachers and staff at the school.

“Our ‘Student of the Month’ (MVP/Most Valuable Player) is a student that has been displaying excellence at RHS during the course of the month. This could be academically, behaviorally, athletically, attendance or making strong improvements in these areas over the course of the month,” stated Dr. Nelson. “To allow as many students to be recognized as possible, we only allow the student to be recognized once during the school year. We will eventually, at the end of the year, vote for a ‘Student of the Year’ in each grade,” he added, stating later that they “want the students to understand that by being excellent and displaying excellence, they are adding value to both themselves and the school at large.”

There is also a similar program for the staff, where teachers get nominated and two of them can become the “Teacher of the Month.” One teacher is recognized for excellence by the rest of the staff and the other teacher is voted on by the students at the school. At the end of the school year, one teacher can be recognized as the “Teacher of the Year.”

Congratulations to all the students and teachers that got the monthly award for their excellent work!
