District 9: Evans Elementary Students Participate in Girls on the Run 5K

On Sunday, Nov. 10, a group of students from Evans Elementary School participated in the Girls on the Run 5K, an event with which participants celebrate the culmination of another successful program.

Girls on the Run - Memphis is a non-profit organization that seeks to teach young girls basic life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons, and running games. It is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade.

Youth development programs teach girls vital social and emotional skills, such as effective communication, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and empathy. These skills are crucial for building healthy relationships with peers, mentors, and family members. They also contribute to a girl’s ability to navigate the pressures and complexities of adolescence.

Additionally, some of these programs can offer academic support, mentoring, and career exploration, which is essential for helping girls set and achieve educational and professional goals.

Youth development programs for girls are vital in shaping future generations of confident, educated, and empowered women.
