Delano Optional Elementary School hosted their annual fall Career Day today! They had the pleasure of hosting the following organizations: The Terminator from MLGW (Memphis, Light, Gas and Water), the Tennessee Department of Probation and Parole, a Wolfchase car salesman, a fashion designer, Bank of America, Memphis Police Department K-9 Unit, and the Memphis Fire Department.
It was an exciting event that introduced students to a wide array of professions that sparked their imagination about the future. For many children, the Career Fair was a first glimpse into the wide world of careers.
“I want to be a firefighter because they help save people’s lives since they are a paramedic and firefighter,” said a Delano 5th grader. Another student said they would like to be a K-9 officer because they get to have a dog! These are only some of the takeaways students verbalized after an exciting career fair.
These statements demonstrate how much students can benefit from a career fair when they are young: it is one more tool that gives them a better understanding of the different professions available and opens up a much broader horizon.
The Career Fair encouraged students to dream big while thinking creatively about their futures. Delano Elementary School students were able to broaden their horizons beyond the typical careers they might be familiar with. The event will help students foster curiosity and lifelong learning teaching students that their possibilities are endless.
