The MSCS Student Congress convened for its monthly meeting, bringing together representatives from middle and high schools across the district. The morning kicked off with a powerful and motivational speech from Interim Superintendent Dr. Roderick Richmond, who encouraged students to embrace their roles as leaders and change-makers within their schools and communities. His words set an inspiring tone for the day, reminding students of the importance of using their voices and talents to shape the future.

In addition to their regular agenda, Student Congress members had the unique opportunity to participate in an enriching essay workshop facilitated by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. ~ Alpha Eta Zeta Chapter. During the workshop, students enhanced their writing skills, received valuable mentorship, and gained insights into effective essay composition. The session was designed to help students express their ideas clearly, structure their thoughts effectively, and prepare for future academic opportunities, including college applications and scholarship essays.

“Today, we were hosting an essay workshop representing our chapter and our nonprofit, The AHZ DOVE Foundation, which supports the ideals of service, scholarship, and unity,” said Jashlyn Smith, 2nd Vice President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. ~ Alpha Eta Zeta Chapter of Memphis. “It is really important to give back within the community and also foster educational endeavors within the city of Memphis.” The organization’s commitment to mentorship and academic success was evident as they engaged students in thoughtful discussions and interactive writing exercises.
Through this collaboration, Student Congress members not only refined their writing abilities but also strengthened their connection to community leaders dedicated to their success. As MSCS continues to emphasize leadership and academic excellence, partnerships like these play a crucial role in empowering students with the tools they need to thrive. The Student Congress looks forward to more opportunities to grow, learn, and lead in the months ahead.
