MEMPHIS, TN (MSCS) – The Repertory Dance Ensemble from Rozelle’s Creative and Performing Arts Elementary School (RRDE) is going to New York City for the first time to represent Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) academically and artistically: they will be presenting their “Wonka Junior” play on Ellis Island from May 29 to June 3. The school’s Showstoppers Chorus visited New York in the late 90’s.
According to the school’s Lead Dance Teacher and Fine Arts and Dance Specialist Tevita Williams-Dumas, this event is not a competition and only some of the 40+ students that are in RRDE will be participating in “Rozelle Takes NYC.”
“We are hoping to expose our students to more in the performing arts; where better to show them than in the Big Apple?” Dumas said.
Rozelle’s “Wonka Junior” production was partially shown during the TCAP event at the Board of Education, on April 12. The full performance will take place at Rozelle Elementary’s theatre from May 13 to May 14. Everyone is invited!
Tickets, $10, can be purchased at Rozelle Elementary’s main office.
