MSCS in the Summer: Volleyball Camp Edition

Memphis, TN – The Memphis Shelby County Interscholastic Athletic Association (MSCIAA) last week hosted an energetic volleyball camp at Hamilton High School, drawing young athletes from across the region.

The volleyball camp drew dozens of participants on Friday, June 6.

The final day of camp on Friday, June 6, saw a strong turnout, with over 50 enthusiastic players filling the gymnasium, eager to showcase the skills they had sharpened throughout the week. The day kicked off with a series of high-intensity drills designed to test and elevate each participant's technical abilities.

A volleyball player demonstrates how to spike the ball without crossing the designated blue line on the court.

As the drills started, the coaches made note of players who made little to no mistakes. The students with the highest points made the final team to compete in front of their peers.

In one particularly demanding drill, a coach tossed the ball high into the air while players were tasked with executing a powerful spike. The catch? Students couldn’t cross the designated blue line on the court. The exercise tested their timing, control, and spatial awareness, reinforcing key fundamentals of competitive play.

By the end of the session, the gym was filled with sounds of chatter and high-fives as the athletes showed off their energy for the passion of the game. The MSCIAA volleyball camp not only sharpened skills, but also built camaraderie and fostered a deeper love for the sport.
