Information Technology (IT) is a customer-focused division that provides technology-related services to all schools and administrative units within Shelby County Schools. IT supports SCS’s mission by providing technology leadership and integrated support systems and services. IT is committed to providing quality technology solutions and resources to support our teachers and administrators, to engage our students, and to assist our business partners in the effective business operations across the District. IT provides students and staff with effective tools, resources, business and data systems and infrastructure to manage and support student learning and development.
DIVISIONS
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS
The departments which comprise the work of Business Relationships and Customer Service are Field Services and the Service Desk. These areas are considered to be the front facing, customer service units within the Information Technology division. Our purpose is to ensure we are implementing and supporting technology initiatives which create customer and/or business value that align with Shelby County Schools’ mission and vision. We strive to provide our internal customers with highly effective and quality customer service designed to respond to the district’s need for efficiency and productivity. It is our commitment to provide excellence, flexibility, and integrity to each and every district employee of Shelby County Schools.
FIELD SUPPORT SERVICES
The Field Support Analysts provides direct technical support to all Shelby County Schools and administrative support staff members. The FSAs primary responsibility is to provide the first line of on-site field system support that includes hardware, software and software applications.
IT SERVICE DESK
The IT Service Desk serves as the first point of contact to all district employees. Providing our customers/end-users with troubleshooting, guidance, and customer service for the vast information technologies at Shelby County Schools. Through telephone support, we gather the necessary information to resolve issues immediately or dispatch the appropriate Field Support for further analysis/resolution. FINANCE & OPERATIONS
The Highly Specialized Strategic Planning Advisor serves as the liaison between the CIO and our Stakeholders. The Advisor is responsible for managing the overall Budget, Accounts Payable, Human Resources, Contracts Agreements, District Telecommunications as well as the USAC E-rate Application Program for the IT Department
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The Project Management Office (PMO) provides project management guidance, leadership, and assistance to district and department technology initiatives that are aligned to the strategic goals and vision of Shelby County Schools. The purpose of the PMO is to ensure all projects are successfully facilitated and guided from initiation to closure...on time, in scope, and within budget.
ERP FUNCTIONAL SUPPORT
The ERP Support team provides guidance and hands-on support to the business customers, including those in Finance, Human Resources and Business Operations. The team partners with business users to analyze, design and develop solutions to complex business and technical problems. The team also provides technology services such as access to data and implementing custom web applications/reports throughout the District.
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
Application Development team maintains the District’s Student Management System/Student Information System (SIS) and participates in data integration processes between the SIS and other systems/programs. The team also develops in-house Intranet web applications for SCS business teams.
ENTERPRISE SYSTEM SERVICES
The Enterprise System Services team is responsible for the design & administration for network-based applications. ESS also oversees e-mail systems, virus protection and server administration.
IT SECURITY SERVICES
Security Services is responsible for establishing IT security policies for the district along with monitoring, reporting and contributing to the resolution of any IT security issues
NETWORKING AND TELECOMMUNICATION
The Networking and Telecommunication team manages and maintains over 180 sites for The Shelby County School District. With over 110,000 students, the cisco infrastructure is able to support the wireless and wired network, as well as offer VOIP opportunities. The networking/telecommunication team provides the following:
- Onsite and remote network analysis
- Support and training to customers
- Assists in planning installations, migrations and implementations of network components
- Assists in project planning, presentation and implementation
- Follows established security procedures
- Analyzes, develops and implements ideas for improved efficiency and effectiveness
- Supports VOIP telephone system
